Honors' English 3 provides students with a base knowledge of major British literary texts as well as major cultural, literary, and historical movements. This class focuses not just on literary texts, but also on how these texts relate to the time in which they were composed (as well as contemporary society). We will be looking at texts holistically as well as performing close-readings and examining how authors have crafted the language to achieve a certain purpose. This course requires quite a bit of critical thinking and analysis, as well as a willingness to participate in meaningful class discussions about the various texts, skills, and topics.
Because this is an honors-level course, expectations will be appropriately high. In addition to studying literature, students will be writing frequently. Because writing is a practice, the best way to improve is to keep writing. Finally, through our study of literature and language, students will strengthen the skills necessary to succeed on standardized tests, as well as in future English classes. |
